Welcome to March

imageWelcome to March! Today is the 1st day of National Women’s History Month. The theme for this year is “Celebrating Women of Character, Courage and Commitment.” And since National Women’s History Month is rarely acknowledged on a grand scale, I thought it would be a good idea to share scripture and biblical examples of character, courage and commitment.

CHARACTER: a set of qualities and traits that are distinctive to a person. The Proverbs 31 woman was a woman of noble character who worked hard, helped the poor and feared The Lord.  If you are praying and asking God to develop and strengthen your character, remember Romans 5:3-4. “…but we also rejoice in sufferings, because we know that suffering produces perseverance; perseverance, CHARACTER; and Character, hope.”

COURAGE: the ability to do something despite fear; the ability to confront fear, danger or uncertainty. Queen Esther and Rahab were COURAGEOUS women. Queen Esther saved her people and Rahab hid the spies Joshua sent. If you are praying for courage, memorize Deuteronomy 31:6 and 2 Timothy 1:7. “Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid or terrified because of them, for The Lord your God goes with you; he will neither leave you nor forsake you.” “God did not give us a spirit of fear but of power and love and self-control.” (2 Timothy 1:7)

COMMITMENT: dedication to a person, cause or activity. Ruth was committed to God and Naomi. If you are striving and praying to be more committed in any area of your life, make Ephesians 6:7-8 verses of focus. “Serve wholeheartedly, as if you were serving The Lord, not men, because you know The Lord will reward everyone for whatever good he does, whether he is slave or free.”

Our character dictates our thoughts and actions. We have courage to stand in the face of adversity. We are committed to glorifying God in all we do. And though we are not perfect, and we stumble from time to time, it is important that we attempt to be and do better than the day before. Each day we demonstrate our character, courage and commitment as role models, entrepreneurs, mothers, educators and leaders in our community. Our lives and work should inspire girls and women to reach their full potential. We encourage them to love and respect themselves and others. We encourage boys and men to not only love and respect themselves, but to respect, cherish and love their mothers, sisters, friends and wives. As Kingdom Chicks, we are called to be women of character, courage and commitment.

Have a marvelous March!
