I have a feeling that 2013 is going to be a year of significant change for me! I’m not the biggest fan of change, but change is always for our betterment. I will be open to whatever changes await me next year because whatever the change(s), God has something absolutely, positively amazing in store for me. Many people advocate choosing one word for the year because it gives you a different outlook during that year. I have tried and tried, but I can’t choose just one. This is proof of my indecisiveness; more on that later.
My bible, journal and concordance
If you haven’t already chosen a word for 2013, it’s not too late. Keep in mind, you don’t have to choose a word. I’m choosing one because it will give me something to focus on during my meditation and something to refer to when I’m frustrated with life or circumstances. This is my first year choosing a word of the year. I have faith that it will set the tone for my year. Words are important. If chosen properly, your word will guide your behaviors, transform your thoughts and inspire you to do and be better. Your word can also challenge you in your spiritual walk. I am sharing a list of words that is comprised of my top choices, along with related scripture. Maybe by the end of the night I will have chosen just one. We’ll see. 🙂 Feel free to choose one of these if it speaks to your soul.
Hebrews 3:13 – But encourage one another daily, as long as it is called “Today,” so that none of you may be hardened by sin’s deceitfulness.
Hebrews 11:6 –But without faith it is impossible to please Him, for he who comes to God must believe that He is and that He is a rewarder of those who diligently seek him.
Ephesians 3:12 – In union with Christ and through our faith in him we have the boldness to go into God’s presence with all confidence.
Romans 10:17 – So faith comes from hearing, and hearing from the word of God.
Matthew 6:14 – For if you forgive other people when they sin against you, your heavenly Father will also forgive you. But, if you do not forgive others their sins, your Father will not forgive your sins.
1 John 1:9 – If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just and will forgive us our sins and purify us from all unrighteousness.
2 Corinthians 12:9-10 – But his answer was: “My grace is all you need, for my power is greatest when you are weak.” I am most happy, then to be proud of my weaknesses, in order to feel the protection of Christ’s power over me. I am content with weaknesses, insults, hardships, persecutions, and difficulties for Christ’s sake. For when I am weak, then I am strong.
2 Peter 3:18 – But continue to grow in grace and knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.
Romans 15:13 – May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace as you trust in him, so that you may overflow with hopeby the power of the holy spirit.
Nehemiah 8:10 – …Do not grieve, the joy of the Lord is your strength.
1 John 4:18 – There is no fear in love. But perfect love drives out fear, because fear has to do with punishment. The one who fears is not made perfect in love.
2 Timothy 1:7 – For the spirit God gave us does not make us timid, but gives us power, love and self – discipline.
Isaiah 26:3 – You will keep in perfect peace those whose minds are steadfast, because they trust in you.
Psalm 138:8 – The Lord will work out his plans for my life…
Jeremiah 29:11-13 – I alone know the plans I have for you, plans to bring you prosperity and not disaster, plans to bring about the future you hope for. Then you will call to me. You will come and pray to me, and you will find me because you will seek me with all your heart.
Ephesians 2:10 – God has made us what we are, and in our union with Christ Jesus he has created us for a life of good deeds, which he has already prepared for us to do.
Ephesians 1:7 – In him we have redemption through his blood, the forgiveness of sins, in accordance with the riches of God’s grace.
Titus 2:14 – Our Savior Jesus Christ gave himself for us, that He might redeem us from every lawless deed and purify for Himself His own special people, zealous for good works.
1 Corinthians 15:58 – Therefore, my beloved brethren, be steadfast, immovable, always abounding in the work of the Lord, knowing that your labor is not in vain in the Lord.
Psalm 46:10 – “Be still, and know that I am God…”
James 4:8 – Draw near to God, and he will draw near to you…
SURRENDER!!! This will be my word for 2013. “I surrender all. All to thee, my precious savior…” I surprised myself; I was able to choose one word before I finished the post! Things are changing already. J Initially, I thought long and hard about my word. I stopped thinking about it, and then it started appearing everywhere. I should’ve recognized that as confirmation. But, as I was typing this post, it was that word that stood out. So, for 2013 (and beyond), I am being called to surrender my desires and my plans to His PERFECT will. After all, God doesn’t need any assistance from little ol’ me. As Psalm 46:10 tells me, I just need to be still, know that God is in control and that’s He’s got me. After all, he promised to perfect that which concerns me.
Surrender means to cease resistance and submit to authority. Surrendering also means not to worry about things that I’ve prayed about. So, when I attempt to chart my own course, I am resisting God’s will for my life. Shame on me!!!! I never looked at it that way before. The more I think about it, when I resist God’s will for my life by trying to get from point A to point B quicker or trying to skip B, C and everything else in between and move right to Z, I am actually delaying my own progress. Focusing on SURRENDER for the year will enable me to achieve my goals in that I won’t be resisting God.
It is my prayer that a spirit of surrender will become a part of me, so much so that it will become second nature. Surrendering will challenge me to let go and let God; it will fulfill God’s plan, guide my choices, transform my thoughts and inspire a spirit of obedience.
If you have chosen or subsequently choose a word of the year, I’d love for you to share it.
Happy New Year and Peace & Blessings!!!
