God is speaking to us; but, we’re not listening! So, HIS wrath is upon us. How do we know?
Look at the horrific events of the past few weeks; and let’s not forget what’s happening in the political arena. This country is in shambles, total disarray. Who’s to blame? We all are! Clergy members are not speaking out; Christians are being silent; we refuse to speak out against SIN and wrongdoings! We have to ACKNOWLEDGE there are bad apples in every profession! We have too few courageous, bold Christians who are willing to admit that fact.
Look at these alarming events that took place July 5, 6, 7, and July 17, 2016.
July 5, 2016: Killing of Alton Sterling by a police officer in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. Matthew 7:12 says, “So, in everything, do to others what you would have them do to you, this sums up the Law and the Prophets.” Exodus 20:13 – Thou shalt not kill.
July 6, 2016: Death of Philando Castile by a police officer in Falcon Heights, Minnesota. Matthew 7:12 – It’s really the “Golden Rule.” Do unto others as you would have them do unto you. Always treat others the way you want to be treated. Exodus 20:13 – Thou shalt not kill.
July 7, 2016: Demise of five police officers during a peaceful protest in Dallas, Texas. Officers killed were: Lorne Ahrens, Michael Karol, Michael Smith, Brent Thompson, and Patrick Zamarripa. These officers were killed by an angry citizen. Ephesians 4:26-27 admonishes us “Be ye angry, and sin not: don’t let the sun go down upon your wrath: Neither give place to the devil. We must deal with our anger in positive ways. Exodus 20:13 Thou shalt not kill.
July 17, 2016: Three law enforcement officials: Brad Garafola, Matthew Gerald and Montrell Jackson were killed by an angry citizen in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. Romans 12:17 “Do not repay anyone evil for evil.” “Be careful to do what is right in the eyes of everybody.” Romans 12:19 – “Do not take revenge, my friends, but leave room for God’s wrath, for it is written: “it is mine to avenge; I will repay, says the Lord.” Exodus 20:13 – Thou shalt not kill.
Every single one, of these deaths, was hostile, sinful and senseless. While writing my thoughts, I learned of more officer involved deaths and shootings occurring across the country, and of law enforcement officials as well. These tragedies are happening too often to monitor.
All of the problems we’re facing in this country boil down to our sinful nature. America has a “SIN” problem! 2Chronicles 7:14 – If my people, which are called by my name, shall humble themselves, pray, seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin, and will heal their land.
Christians, wherever you are, please stand up and ACKNOWLEDGE that we have an authentic dilemma with race relations, racism, bigotry and raw hatred for specific groups in this country. Statistics reflect this. It’s time for us to face the truth; and admit that we have real issues; and that police brutality and these attitudes and actions truly do exist; otherwise, we will never begin to solve the systemic problems that haunt America. As long as we are in denial, nothing will change. We will get more of the same.
This madness just has to STOP; we must stop pointing fingers, and stop the blame game.
Matthew 7:5 admonishes us “You hypocrite, first take the plank out of your own eye, and then you will see clearly to remove the speck from your brother’s eye.
LOVE: Matthew 5:44 – But I tell you, love your enemies and pray for those who persecute you; do good to those who hate you. 1Peter 4:8 – Above all things, maintain love for each other; love covers a multitude of Sins.
FORGIVENESS: Genesis 50:17 “This is what you are to say to Joseph: I ask you to forgive your brothers the sins and the wrongs they committed in treating you so badly. Now please forgive the sins of the servants of the God of your father.” Jesus Christ asked God to forgive those who beat HIM and nailed HIM to the cross, eventually leading to HIS death.
Luke 23:34 – Jesus said, “Father, forgive them, for they know not what they do. . .”
We must have a forgiving spirit if we expect God to forgive us for our trespasses.
America will heal once we make some ACKNOWLEDGEMENTS, LOVE and FORGIVE each other for our many fold SINS.
We must learn to live together as brothers, or perish together as fools. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.
